burrows bites bergeron. is the nhl fucking blind?

In the video below, Alexandre Burrows clearly bites Patrice Bergeron's finger. After the bite, Bergeron showed a bloody finger to the refs, who did nothing. Fine, because the NHL would surely punish Burrows for the incident. Or not.

"After reviewing the incident, including speaking with the on-ice officials, I can find no conclusive evidence that Alex Burrows intentionally bit the finger of Patrice Bergeron."
--Mike Murphy, NHL VP of Hockey Operations

Mike Murphy is an asshole. Plain and simple. Anyone who is not a Canucks homer will agree that Burrows clearly chomped the shit out of Bergeron's finger. Furthermore, hockey fans know that Patrice Bergeron is not the type to embellish anything. He is one of the classiest and hardest working players in the league.

Some will say that Bergeron "deserved" to have his finger chomped because he was sticking it near Burrows' mouth. If you feel that way, then you must not watch very much hockey. The "face wash" is a common tactic used a hundred times during a game. Biting is unacceptable in hockey and in all sports. Yet the NHL, being selective in who they punish again, have decided to let Burrows off the hook.

But why would the NHL let this go? Do they want a Canadian team to win the Cup? Maybe. Why else would the league tolerate such blatantly unsportsmanlike conduct? Do they feel that suspending Burrows would give the Bruins an unfair advantage, and shouldn't Burrows have thought about that before turning Bergeron's finger into a  croissant? We'll never know, because we'll never get an answer other than, "We can't tell if he bit him or not." Which is pure bullshit.

Is the NHL fucking blind? Or am I wearing black and gold glasses?

  1. This is one of those things the NHL needs to fix if they ever want to become more than what they are now. For some reason they refuse to keep with the precedents they set. From the hits to the head, to the cross checking to cheapshots, they just sort of wing it when it comes to what a penalty will be. Despite the fact that they could suspend one player 2 games for something another player gets zero games for and such is doing nothing to help the integrity of the game.

But you know, supposedly NHL is doing better now than ever, so whatever i guess.

  2. They're just blind. Pretty immature, but emotions gets the best of everyone at times.
